HC Deb 18 November 1998 vol 319 c669W
Mr. Stunell

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions if he will list the current reviews and consultations which are being undertaken by his Department on climate change and sustainable development. [59993]

Mr. Meale

A consultation on policy options for meeting the UK's climate change targets began on 26 October 1998 and will end on 12 February 1999. This consultation will eventually lead to the development of a new UK climate change programme in good time for ratification of the Kyoto Protocol. The Government's consultation on the revision of the 1994 UK sustainable development strategy was held between 4 February and 29 May 1998. A series of consultation documents on Tourism, Business, Construction, Biodiversity and Forestry were also published as supplements to the main consultation paper "Opportunities for Change". The Government are aiming to publish a revised sustainable development strategy in early 1999.
