HC Deb 18 November 1998 vol 319 c632W
Mr. Brake

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if the armed services will be charging(a) local authorities, (b) health authorities and (c) other organisations which request them to be on standby over the millennium to deal with consequences of the millennium bug. [59587]

Mr. Doug Henderson

HM Treasury rules for Government Accounting require my Department to raise charges when carrying out activities other than our central defence tasks. Accordingly, if military assistance were to be provided to health organisations or other organisations charges would be raised. These charges would vary according to the circumstances, and may be waived altogether in cases involving immediate danger to human life.
