To ask the Secretary of State for Defence how many nurses are employed by his Department; and how they are allocated between the services. [59342]

The numbers of nurses employed by the Ministry of Defence are as follows:

Nurses
Royal Navy 338
Army 716
Royal Air Force 297
MOD Civilian 364

Notes:

  1. 1. The figures are as at 1 September 1998.
  2. 2. The military figures include Registered Mental Nurses and trainees.
  3. 3. The figure for civilian nurses does not include those who are employed locally overseas and for whom records are not held centrally.
