[holding answer 5 November 1998]: Compliance cost assessments published by my Department between 1 May 1997 and 31 May 1998 were listed in my answer to the hon. Member for South Cambridgeshire (Mr. Lansley) on 30 July 1998, Official Report, columns 430-32.

Between 1 June 1998 and 31 October 1998, 21 compliance cost assessments and regulatory impact assessments have been published by my Department. These are:

£0.87 billion. The 1999–2000 figure includes some £570 million (£497 million at 1994–95 prices) released through the Capital Receipts Initiative, some of which authorities may choose to invest in private sector stock renovation or on housing-related regeneration.
