HC Deb 09 November 1998 vol 319 c1W
Jackie Ballard

To ask the Chairman of the Administration Committee if she will make a statement on the decision not to offer hon. Members the option of using bespoke House stationery printed on recycled paper. [58849]

Mrs. Roe

The Committee's decision to introduce a standard House of Commons paper was made against the following background;(a) the maintenance of quality and standards; (b) the provision of extra security by the insertion of a unique Portcullis watermark licensed to the House of Commons; (c) a reduction in cost and range of bespoke products; and (d) environmental concerns.

The hon. Lady will wish to note that the new paper is recycled from pre-consumer waste, typically using off cuts and reel ends from a previous manufacturing process.
