HC Deb 04 November 1998 vol 318 c602W
Mr. Mackinlay

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs on what date the United Kingdom ratified the Convention on Conciliation and Arbitration of the OSCE. [58006]

Mr. Tony Lloyd

The United Kingdom has not yet acceded to the OSCE Convention on Conciliation and Arbitration, but will keep the matter under review.

The Convention, which entered into force in December 1994, provides a mechanism for resolving disputes between states in the OSCE area. But in practice other dispute settlement mechanisms have been preferred, including the International Criminal Court of Justice. So far, no cases have been submitted for conciliation or arbitration under the Convention by any country.
