HC Deb 16 March 1998 vol 308 c458W
Dr. Ladyman

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will list, for each offer of regional selective assistance made during 1997, the percentage of the project's capital cost represented by the grant offered; and if he will indicate, for each offer, if it related to an area of full or intermediate assisted area status. [33706]

Mr. Hain

In 1997, companies in Wales accepted 161 offers of Regional Selective Assistance. Information about the capital costs of individual projects is treated as "commercial in confidence". The relationship between offer levels and capital costs varies widely according to the type of project and reflects the selective nature of RSA whereby projects are secured for the minimum necessary cost.

In development areas offer values ranged from 8.5% to 29.4% of capital costs and in intermediate areas from 1.97% to 18.7%.
