§ Sir Raymond PowellTo ask the Secretary of State for Wales what steps he is taking to protect Welsh farmers from further falls in their income. [33713]
§ Mr. Win GriffithsThe Government have announced an agrimonetary aid package for the livestock industry of £85 million, of which just over £12 million will go to farmers in Wales. A further £70 million was announced in February to meet the costs of the Specified Risk Material Controls on cattle, sheep and goats and the entire start-up costs of the Cattle Traceability System.
In addition, my right hon. Friend is engaged in constructive dialogue with farmers' leaders about how a viable long-term future for Welsh agriculture can be created.
