HC Deb 01 June 1998 vol 313 cc126-7W
Mr. Woolas

To ask the President of the Board of Trade what plans she has for further protection of consumers regarding the buying and selling of static caravans. [42913]

Mr. Nigel Griffiths

The Director General of Fair Trading has recently agreed a revised code of practice for holiday caravans with the two main site owners' organisations which give clear rights to those buying and selling holiday caravans. Buyers of holiday caravans also benefit in the same way as other consumers from general consumer protection legislation, such as the Sale of Goods Act 1979 and the Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts Regulations 1994. The responsibility for legislation covering residential caravans lies with the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions.
