To ask the Secretary of State for Defence under what budget headings costs directly related to nuclear weapons appear. [53761]

Costs of the nuclear warhead programme are contained in Vote 3 Subhead A which covers the Chief of Defence Procurement's Top Level Budget. Other costs associated with the acquisition, operation and support of the Trident deterrent are contained in Vote 3 Subhead D (Director General Submarines/Chief Strategic Systems Executive), Vote 1 Subhead A (Commander in Chief Fleet) and Vote 2 Subhead A (Chief of Fleet Support).

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if all WE177 warheads have been dismantled; and if the highly enriched uranium has been recycled. [54513]

Mr. George Robertson

97 per cent. of WE177 warheads have now been dismantled and the dismantling programme will be complete by end of August 1998. Nuclear material will be retained for Defence purposes.
