HC Deb 31 July 1998 vol 317 c659W
Mr. Goggins

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if the implementation of the opinion of the European Commission on the successor regime for duty and tax-paid sales on aircraft and ships after the end of June 1999 will require a change in(a) EU and (b) United Kingdom law. [52536]

Dawn Primarolo

[holding answer 29 July 1998]: The Commission's view is that there is no requirement for a change in EU legislation in order to enact their suggestion for the successor regime and it has said that, to the extent necessary, certain legal provisions may be disregarded by mutual agreement. The UK has reserved its position on this to examine all options.
