HC Deb 31 July 1998 vol 317 cc819-20W
Mr. Burstow

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment (1) what representations he has received concerning the impact of proposed changes to the methodology for relating to the index for additional educational needs; [53997]

(2) what evaluation he has made of the impact on funding for London local authorities if the current indicators contained in the additional educational needs index are replaced with a two stage process for picking indicators. [53998]

Ms Estelle Morris

The Government have received a number of different representations supporting and opposing proposals to revise the current index for additional educational needs. The Government will not evaluate any of the options or take final decisions on the education SSA methodology for 1999–2000 until the autumn, after they have considered the views of local government as a whole. We have a manifesto commitment to ensure a fair distribution of grant.
