§ Clare ShortMy Department runs an active information and development awareness programme.
As outlined in the development White Paper, the Department attaches high priority to promoting greater awareness of development issues. I have recently doubled the budget for work in this field. I have also set up a Development Awareness Working Group to agree strategies for this work. In November, we will hold the first Development Policy Forum which will enable a wide public debate on development issues.
In addition, the Department produces publications on its work, attends exhibitions, runs a mobile roadshow, produces its own magazine, "Developments", and has its own internet site. My hon. Friend the Under-Secretary and I are currently undertaking a series of regional visits to promote greater understanding of development issues.
