HC Deb 28 July 1998 vol 317 c150W
Mr. Browne

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement about the prior options review of the Scottish Record Office. [53606]

Mr. Dewar

A prior options review of the Scottish Record Office was carried out recently by my Department. The review concluded that the functions of the Scottish Record Office will be required indefinitely as they are essential to the safekeeping and preservation of the national archives of Scotland, and recommended continuation of Agency status. A number of subsidiary recommendations were made to enhance the strategic management of the Agency and to develop its commercial activities. I have accepted the recommendations.
