Dr. John Cunningham[holding answer 27 July 1998]: The dungeons which are alleged to have held the Pendle witches are located in that part of the Castle which is let to Lancashire County Council and which is sub-let to the Home Office for use as a prison, although the dungeons are not in use for that purpose. It is not possible to provide access to the dungeons other than through the Prison area.
