To ask the Secretary of State for Health to whom letters requesting nominations from local authorities for trust boards will be sent for the next trawl for appointments; and if he will make a statement. [51005]

Mr. Milburn

Letters were sent to local authority chief executives in November and December 1997 seeking nominations for appointment to National Health Service trust and health authority boards in 1998. A similar letter will be sent to chief executives later this year seeking nominations for appointments in 1999.
