To ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will make a statement on the number of vacancies that currently exist in general practitioner posts. [51004]

Surveys by the Medical Practices Committee indicate that the vacancy rate for general medical practitioners remains low at around 3 per cent. Recent policy initiatives should help to ensure that the general practice workforce continues to be maintained at the size required to meet service needs overall.
