To ask the Secretary of State for Health what steps he is taking to improve the dietary advice available to sufferers of Coeliac' s disease. [52381]

This is a professional matter. The British Society of Gastroenterology issued "Guidelines for the management of patients with coeliac disease" in September 1996. They include guidance on the dietary treatment of the condition and the need for supervision by a dietitian. The Coeliac Society, a national patient self-help group, also offers dietary information and regularly updated lists of gluten free foods.
