To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will provide a breakdown of AWE running costs for 1997–98 into(a) staff costs, (b) waste management and disposal, (c) research and development, (d) production and dismantlement, (e) construction costs and (f) payments to Hunting-BRAE. [52170]

I would draw my hon. Friend's attention to the Strategic Defence Review White Paper Supporting Essay Five which contains a general breakdown of costs for the nuclear warhead programme for the Financial Year 1997–98. Staff costs and payments to Hunting-BRAE are commercially confidential and I am withholding this information in accordance with Exemption 13 of the Code of Practice on Access to Government Information relating to Third Party commercial confidences.
