HC Deb 23 July 1998 vol 316 c649W
15. Mr. Vaz

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer on what date he proposes to publish the confidential parts of the Bingham report. [50501]

Mr. Darling

The appendices to the Bingham report contain information that was supplied in confidence. At the outset of the inquiry, Lord Bingham's invitation to submit evidence made it clear he would respect confidentiality. I do not believe we can now break that undertaking. To do so would compromise future inquiries. However, Lord Bingham did draw on all the information supplied to him when preparing his report and reaching his conclusions.
