To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport what is the value to date of National Lottery funding of new and refurbished buildings in(a) England, (b) Wales, (c) Scotland and (d) Northern Ireland, broken down into (i) grants and (ii) matching funding. [21709]

[holding answer 22 December 1997]: The National Lottery distributors estimate that some 5,805 awards worth approximately £2.78 billion have been made to help support new buildings and refurbish existing ones across the United Kingdom. A further £2.75 billion has been promised in partnership funding. A breakdown by country follows:
