HC Deb 17 February 1998 vol 306 cc584-8W
Dr. Gibson

To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport if he will list the scientific organisations which have been consulted about the composition of the NESTA Board. [29048]

Mr. Chris Smith

The National Lottery Bill would require me, before appointing NESTA's Trustees, to consult representatives of bodies active in science, technology and the arts. In preparation for the establishment of NESTA, my Department is seeking the views of a wide range of bodies and individuals, many of which are active in more than one of these fields. It is not, therefore, possible accurately to identify scientific organisations alone. The complete list of bodies being consulted is given. In addition, all those who responded to the proposals for NESTA in our consultation paper "The People's Lottery" have been informed of the process for identifying candidates for these posts and their views are welcomed. The posts of Chair and Trustees of NESTA are also being advertised in the national press.
