Mr. Bob Russell

To ask the Secretary of State for Health, pursuant to his oral answer of 27 January 1998,Official Report, column 139, how many acres of land in Colchester are planned to be disposed of by (a) the Department of Health, (b) the Regional Health Authority, (c) North Essex Health Authority, (d) Essex Rivers Healthcare Trust, (e) North Essex Mental Health Trust and (f) New Possibilities Health Trust. [28005]

Mr. Milburn

The National Health Service Executive's North Thames Regional Office is leading on the planning and disposal of all the surplus land in Colchester held by the Department of Health, Essex Rivers Healthcare NHS Trust and North East Essex Mental Health NHS Trust.

The amount of land is as follows:

All these figures are approximations.

No land is to be disposed of by North Essex Health Authority or the New Possibilities NHS Trust. Regional Health Authorities were abolished in 1996.

Mr. Milburn

The National Health Service Executive's North Thames Regional Office is working on behalf of all three trusts in Colchester to dispose of their surplus estate. We have no plans to invite the trusts to merge other aspects of their property and estate portfolios.
