To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will list each major new computer system that(a) his Department, (b) non-departmental bodies and (c) agencies under his responsibility have purchased in the last five years; what was the initial purchase cost and what was the final cost; what was each system's (i) planned and (ii) actual date of commissioning; what major computer systems will be purchased by bodies in categories (a), (b) and (c) in the next financial year; and what is their estimated cost. The available information for computer systems purchases over the past five years, with an initial purchase price over £500,000, is given in the table in cost bands to protect commercial confidentiality.

Note:

These figures exclude support, maintenance, Home Office costs, upgrades and infrastructure projects. No new computer systems over £500,000 are reported for the next financial year by the Home Office, Prison Service, United Kingdom Passport Agency, Forensic Service or Fire Service College.

In addition, the Immigration and Nationality Directorate is engaged in a major project using the Private Finance Initiative, which will introduce a new computerised casework system to replace the current paper-based processes.
