HC Deb 12 February 1998 vol 306 c372W
Mr. Stunell

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what measures he proposes to take to regulate the export of beef and bonemeal from the United Kingdom to non-EU destinations. [27510]

Mr. Rooker

The export of beef derived from bovine animals slaughtered in the UK and of all meat and bonemeal is prohibited by European Commission Decision 96/239/EC, as amended. The Government have submitted proposals to the European Commission for two schemes which would permit the export of deboned beef, and products made from that beef, from the UK. Those proposals, which include strict control measures to regulate such exports, are under consideration by the Commission in accordance with the procedures agreed at the Florence European Council.
