§ Mr. Win GriffithsThe system used to classify directly employed non-medical NHS staff changed from groups which were based on payscales to groups which are based on new occupation codes. The staff group previously described as 'ancillary staff are now mostly in a group called 'support staff. At 30 June 1997, there were approximately 5,800 whole-time equivalent support staff directly employed by the NHS in Wales.
