HC Deb 04 February 1998 vol 305 c704W
Mr. Hesford

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security if she will review the operation of housing benefit in relation to supported housing tenants; and if she will make a statement. [25863]

Mr. Keith Bradley

An inter-Departmental group is currently considering the funding of services in supported accommodation. As part of this review we recently sought stakeholders" views on the best means of translating our objectives for the long term funding of supported accommodation into a modern, practical and sustainable funding system. Over 200 responses were received which are being considered. We are looking to implement a sustainable funding system as a matter of urgency although I cannot, at this time, say when the review will be complete.

Mr. Kidney

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what reform of housing benefit is proposed to promote the Government's welfare to work programme. [25739]

Mr. Keith Bradley

The Government firmly believe that work is the best form of welfare. Measures to promote welfare to work are being considered as part of The Housing Comprehensive Spending Review. The review is considering a number of ideas and will report as part of the overall Comprehensive Spending Review in the summer.
