HC Deb 02 February 1998 vol 305 cc489-90W
Miss Begg

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will require Scottish local authorities to have a common charging policy for social work services. [25608]

Mr. Galbraith

Local authorities are required to apply a common charging policy for people whom they place in residential nursing home care. Authorities have discretionary powers to charge for certain day and domiciliary care services. In all cases, account must be taken of a person's financial circumstances when assessing the level of charge.
