To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department on how many occasions(a) the opinion of a senior police officer has been given in court as evidence of a person's membership of a specified organisation and (b) a court has been asked to draw an inference from the failure of a person suspected of belonging to a specified organisation to mention a relevant fact; how many persons have been (i) charged and (ii) convicted of belonging to a specified organisation since September 1998; and on how many occasions a court has ordered forfeiture of property following conviction for belonging to a specified organisation. Our records indicate that since the Criminal Justice (Terrorism and Conspiracy) Act 1998 came into force on 4 September, there have been no such cases in England and Wales.
