HC Deb 17 December 1998 vol 322 c655W
Mr. Llew Smith

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence for what reasons Ministry of Defence Police forcibly entered the homes of Gulf War veterans at the beginning of December. [63911]

Mr. Spellar

This is a matter for the Chief Constable of the Ministry of Defence Police Agency. I have asked the Chief Constable to write to my hon. Friend.

Letter from W. E. E. Boreham to Mr. Llew Smith, dated 17 December 1998: I am replying to your Question to the Secretary of State for Defence about Ministry of Defence Police entering the homes of Gulf War veterans, as this falls into my area of responsibility as Chief Constable/Chief Executive of the Ministry of Defence Police Agency. Ministry of Defence Police did not forcibly enter the homes of Gulf War veterans. On Tuesday 1 December 1998 the Ministry of Defence Police executed search warrants at two private residences in connection with an investigation to determine the whereabouts of MOD documents, believed stolen from the MOD's Gulf Veteran's Medical Assessment Programme at St. Thomas' Hospital, London.
