HC Deb 17 December 1998 vol 322 cc761-2W
Mr. Malcolm Bruce

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if it is his policy to seek to increase co-ordination of budgetary and economic policies within EMU in order to promote growth and high employment; and if he will make a statement. [61067]

Ms Hewitt

[holding answer 30 November 1998]: High levels of growth and employment depend on macroeconomic stability and reform of capital, labour and product markets. The Stability and Growth Pact and Articles 103 and 104c of the Maastricht Treaty provide the basis for co-ordination and surveillance of budgetary and economic policies.
