To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what recent representations he has received about the level of crime in Staffordshire. [64505]

In addition to the two questions by my hon. Friend about crime in Staffordshire which I replied to on 16 November 1998,Official Report, columns 388–89, and 19 November 1998, Official Report, column 734, I have received a number of representations from members of the public.

In the 12 months to March 1998, police in Staffordshire recorded 89,820 offences. This represents a decrease of 3.1 per cent. (2,866 offences) over the previous 12 months.
