HC Deb 16 December 1998 vol 322 c547W
Mr. Willis

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment what proposals he has to allow the University for Industry to be a direct provider of further education and higher education courses; and if resources for such provision will come directly from FEFC and HEFC budgets. [61826]

Mr. Mudie

The University for Industry will be launched nationally in the year 2000. There are no plans for UfI to be a direct learning provider but will rather act as a broker of learning opportunities. We expect the further and higher education sectors to make a major contribution to the Uff as a key part of the strategy to embed the Lifelong Learning culture.

It will be open to the Higher Education Funding Council England (HEFCE) and the Further Education Funding Council (FEFC) to allocate places with accompanying funding to enable institutions to develop joint provision of learning opportunities with the UfI.
