Mr. O'Hara

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions if he will estimate how many dwellings in which the household is headed by a person aged over 65 years are leasehold; and how many of these are(a) flats and (b) houses. [64003]

The estimates1 in the table are taken from the Department's Survey of English Housing for 1997–98.

Mr. Raynsford

Estimates1 from the Department's Survey of English Housing show that in 1997–98, twenty four per cent. (24%) of leaseholders were aged over 65 years.
