§ Ms Jowell[holding answer 15 December 1998]: Both the Veterinary Products Committee and the Advisory Committee on the Microbiological Safety of Food (ACMSF) have taken into account the public health concerns when providing advice to Government on the use of antibiotics as growth promoters. The ACMSF is close to finalising a report on microbial antibiotic resistance in relation to food safety which will be submitted to Government when completed.
