§ Janet AndersonThe estimated number of premises requiring a television licence as at 31 March 1998 was 23.6 million. At that date, there were 21.3 million colour television licences and 379,000 black and white television licences in force. During the year to 31 March 1998, 364,000 prosecution statements were taken in respect of television licence fee evasion and there were 112,000 prosecutions.
