§ Mr. MealeThe review of landfill tax by Customs and Excise for the 1998 Budget revealed strong support for the Environmental Bodies Credit Scheme. Following this, the Government are currently considering if the Environmental Bodies Credit Scheme, which is funded from receipts from the landfill tax, might be enhanced, in particular with a view to encouraging recycling. A decision on the extent of any changes to the existing arrangements has yet to be made.
