To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security on what basis the proposed protection for those earning above the lower earnings limit but below the tax threshold will be provided.[36021]

Since 1 May 1997, the Secretary of State has made a total of 17 paid appointments, of which 29 per cent. were women. There were 67 unpaid appointments made and 19 per cent. of these were women.

The ratio of War Pensioners to War Widows is reflected in the representation on War Pension Committee. The total percentage of female appointments on these conunittees is 22 per cent.
