HC Deb 29 April 1998 vol 311 cc151-2W
Ann Clwyd

To ask the President of the Board of Trade, pursuant to her answer of 27 November 1997 to the hon. Member for Newport, West (Mr. Flynn),Official Report, column 645, on export credits, if she will list the defence exports specifying (i) type of equipment, (ii) exporting company, (iii) customer in recipient country and (iv) year of defence sale which were underwritten by ECGD and for which claims have been made by manufacturers but not recovered from the governments of (a) Venezuela, (b) Jordan, (c) Kenya, (d) Egypt and (e) Algeria. [39268]

Mrs. Roche

ECGD is not in a position to provide such detailed information in the form requested because of disproportionate cost and the need to maintain commercial confidentiality.

Mr. Kidney

To ask the President of the Board of Trade what export controls her Department exercises over the supply of military, security and police equipment to Kenya. [35895]

Mrs. Roche

The export to any destination of military, security and para-military goods and arms, ammunition and related material is subject to control by virtue of being listed in Part III of Schedule 1 to the Export of Goods (Control) Order 1994, the so-called "Military List".
