HC Deb 28 April 1998 vol 311 c118W
36. Mr. Purchase

To ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will make it his policy to increase the number of teaching hospitals in the west midlands. [38710]

Mr. Milburn

Since 1993, changes in the delivery of the undergraduate medical curriculum have spread teaching to a wider variety of settings than the traditional teaching hospitals.

Clinical training for medical undergraduates is currently carried out in twenty eight trusts and eighty two general practices in the west midlands. The selection of suitable venues for training is for local decision. There is no evidence that there are insufficient placements to meet the demand for clinical training in the west midlands region at the present time.
