HC Deb 28 April 1998 vol 311 c74W
Mr. McNamara

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many names were contained in files in the possession of Mr. Brian Nelson at the time of his arrest. [37741]

Mr. Ingram

At the time of Mr. Nelson's arrest he was not in possession of any files or otherwise incriminating material. Subsequent examination of documentation in the possession of military authorities indicated many names appearing on files associated with Mr. Nelson. Mr. Stevens' investigations included detailed consideration of all these matters and appropriate action was taken either in terms of criminal charges being preferred or appropriate recommendations about future methods of handling sensitive intelligence.

Mr. McNamara

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many officers involved in the handling of Mr. Brian Nelson were interviewed under caution subsequent to his arrest; and how many were subsequently (i) charged, (ii) promoted and (iii) given meritorious service awards. [37804]
