HC Deb 20 April 1998 vol 310 c502W
Mr. Willis

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment if he will exempt students on four year B.Ed (Hons) courses from paying fees for the fourth year. [39166]

Ms Estelle Morris

We have already announced that trainee teachers on postgraduate certificate of education (PGCE) courses will not have to make means-tested contributions towards tuition fees. We see PGCE courses as a priority, as this is the route followed by most trainee secondary teachers, and under-recruitment has only affected secondary training courses to date. We have no plans to make similar provision for BEd courses, but continue to monitor recruitment to all courses.
