HC Deb 20 April 1998 vol 310 c439W
Mr. Barry Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what action he has taken to secure the future of post offices in rural Wales, with particular reference to Flintshire; and if he will make a statement. [38461]

Mr. Hain

The Government fully recognise the importance of the post office network, especially in rural areas, and are committed to the maintenance of a nationwide network of post offices. In announcing recently the next stage of the Review of the Post Office, my right hon. Friend the President of the Board of Trade reaffirmed this commitment. In the context of the Review, we shall be examining closely further scope for sustaining and strengthening the viability of the post office network as a whole.
