HC Deb 20 April 1998 vol 310 cc456-7W
Mr. Gorrie

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what NHS provision is available in the Edinburgh area to support sufferers from ME; and what plans he has to increase that provision. [38309]

Mr. Galbraith

Lothian health board has indicated that there is a range of services available for patients who have been diagnosed as suffering from ME. General Medical Practitioners usually refer patients to the Infectious Disease Department of the City Hospital. Following diagnosis, patients are offered appropriate treatment for specific symptoms, advice, counselling, psychological support and, if necessary, referral to a psychiatrist with particular expertise in ME. Lothian health board has indicated that it has no plans at present to change the range of services provided.
