HC Deb 20 April 1998 vol 310 cc519-20W
Mr. Clappison

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what forecast he has made of the likely increase in revenue over each of the next five years as a result of the abolition of the family passport. [38793]

Mr. Mike O'Brien

The United Kingdom Passport Agency estimate that the requirement for all under 16 year olds to have their own passports from 5 October this year will increase revenue by £4.4 million in each of the next five years. This additional revenue will be required to recover fully the Agency's costs in providing an extra 400,000 passports each year to children under 16. Under Treasury rules the Passport Agency is required to recover fully its costs.
