HC Deb 08 April 1998 vol 310 c344W
Dr. Ladyman

To ask the President of the Board of Trade, pursuant to her answer of 4 March 1998,Official Report, column 638, if she will make a statement on the cost per job limits on regional selective assistance imposed by the Government indicating any (a) regional variations and (b) variations according to development area status. [38227]

Mrs. Roche

Cost per job is a useful means of assessing value for money against the objective of the RSA scheme to create or safeguard jobs. Each case is judged on its merits and there is no fixed rate of grant per job. The cost per job ceiling is higher in Development Areas than Intermediate Areas.

Dr. Ladyman

To ask the President of the Board of Trade, pursuant to her answer of 11 March 1998,Official Report, column 235, if she will list the average levels of regional selective assistance by region for (a) full and (b) intermediate development areas as a percentage of the project's capital cost. [38210]

Mrs. Roche

This information is provided in the Industrial Development Act 1982 Annual Report, a copy of which is in the Library of the House.

Dr. Ladyman

To ask the President of the Board of Trade how many exceptions were made in 1997 to cost per job limits on regional selective assistance; and if she will list these exceptions. [38228]

Mrs. Roche

One exception was made for a project by the Rover Group to build a new engine plant in the West Midlands.
