HC Deb 08 April 1998 vol 310 cc344-5W
Mr. Love

To ask the President of the Board of Trade what action she is taking to investigate the use of predatory pricing in the airlines industry; and if she will make a statement. [38376]

Mrs. Beckett

Under UK competition legislation, the Director General of Fair Trading is responsible for investigating allegations of anti-competitive and monopolistic behaviour.

In addition, if the behaviour fell under EC competition law, the Competition Directorate of the European Commission has the powers to gather the information necessary to assess a given case, and to terminate any infringements.

Complaints about alleged anti-competitive practices should therefore be forwarded to the Director General or the European Commission as the case may be.
