HC Deb 08 April 1998 vol 310 c269W
20. Mr. Wilkinson

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what discussions have been held during the current peace talks on the policy of the Irish Government towards the repeal of those articles in their constitution which relate to a territorial claim over Northern Ireland. [36909]

Marjorie Mowlam

When the British and Irish Government presented their propositions on Heads of Agreement in the talks on 12 January, they confirmed that as part of any settlement they envisaged balanced constitutional change, based on commitment to the principle of consent in all its aspects, including changes to Articles 2 and 3 of the Irish Constitution as well as in British constitutional legislation. Discussions are continuing in the light of these propositions.
