§ Mr. DenhamReform of the Compensation Recovery scheme took place on 6 October. The compensator is now liable for the repayment of benefits paid as a consequence of an accident, injury or disease. The reforms also mean that compensation for pain and suffering will be paid to the victim in full.
The administration of the Compensation Recovery Unit is a matter for Peter Mathison, Chief Executive of the Benefits Agency. He will write to my hon. Friend.

The Secretary of State for Social Security has asked me to reply to your recent Parliamentary Question asking how much was recouped from accident victims' compensation in respect of Industrial Disablement benefit in each of the last three years.The information is not available in the format requested. The overall amount of Industrial Injuries Disablement benefit recouped from both accident and disease victims, in the last three financial years, is given in the table below:

In the first half of the current financial year £9.4. million has been recovered.
