HC Deb 22 May 1997 vol 294 cc162-3W
Mr. David Stewart

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland on what date plans for the route of the Skye bridge which envisaged the use of Eileian Ban were first considered by the Scottish Office. [1203]

Malcolm Chisholm

The Scottish Office received a copy of a feasibility report entitled "A Bridge to Skye" from the former Highland Regional Council for consideration in December 1986. A number of routes were assessed for the Skye Bridge, with a western route crossing the island of Eilean Ban being the route recommended by JMP Consultants Limited, who had undertaken the feasibility study on behalf of Highland Regional Council.
